LIZ BIGGS, MA, CELTA

Copy Editor and Specialist in Academic Writing

Liz Biggs, has had 16 years’ experience in the field of Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). She has worked as an Instructor in General, Business and Academic English, as a Teacher Trainer, and as an Academic Director in a university programme specialising in teaching English for Academic purposes. This role included compiling courses to help second language English students prepare for all forms of Academic writing such as papers, reports and dissertations.

Liz has also worked for the British Council as an Examiner and Examiner Trainer for the IELTS exam. For these roles, she learned – and later gave instruction in – how to assess the Academic Writing component of the exam. The focus was on recognising the effectiveness of main and supporting ideas, identifying accurate grammar and spelling, and noting where coherence and cohesion were not in line with acceptable Academic English practice.

In 2015 Liz joined ProWriter Academic as a Copy Editor and Advisor in Academic Writing. In this position she proof-reads and edits papers and dissertations and ensures that the writers’ ideas are expressed clearly in good English, and that there is a logical flow to the information. While unable to comment on the content of the paper/dissertation, she is able to point to areas where a different order in the presentation of ideas would strengthen the main argument.

We offer a personal service – we can talk you through everything, and you can be comfortable with a personal relationship. This is especially true for those who don’t speak English as their first language.
